The Messiah Anna Longed For

Temple vs. the Messiah part two

Psalm 40:8-10

“I delight to do Your will, O my God,
And Your law is within my heart.”

I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness
In the great assembly;
Indeed, I do not restrain my lips,
O Lord, You Yourself know.

 I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart;
I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation;
I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth
From the great assembly.”

Today, we continue in Psalm 40. While only Christ perfectly fulfilled these words, Anna did her best to tell of the hope of Israel to anyone who would listen. Luke 2:38 says the she “...spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem.” Did you see the ‘all’? Anna wasn’t shy about who she told. She wanted anyone who would listen, to listen.

Think of all the witnesses who faithfully told those around them of the birth of the Messiah. We had a plurality (more than two of each) or shepherds and wise men. Then there was Simeon, Elizabeth and Zechariah. That doesn’t even touch the immediate families of Mary and Joseph.

But the Bible and history seem to suggest that no one gave them credence. As much as we like legends like the little Drummer Boy and the fourth wise man, it appears that the world did its best to ignore the birth of its Savior.
